Community Development
The community development workers support local residents to come together, develop the skills knowledge and experience necessary to take collective action, and to make positive change in response to issues identified by the community.
What do Hangleton and Knoll Project Community Development Workers do?
The community development workers are based in the two local community centres and are a great point of contact for anybody new to the area or wishing to get more involved in local community activities.
We perform many different roles, including:
- Making contact and building relationships with residents,
- Helping residents identify their issues and priorities,
- Supporting residents who have a common interest to get together,
- Supporting new and existing groups to work towards their independence,
- Supporting the development of local decision making forums,
- Building and maintaining partnerships with statutory and voluntary organisations across the city, to better meet the needs of our community,
- Using our knowledge of city wide community activities to link groups and organisations into wider networks, helping them to be more effective through collaborative work.,
- Supporting the management bodies of the Community Centres,
- Resident consultations to ensure that and local inititives are supported by the wider community,
- Encouraging residents to develop a sense of ownership of their area,
- Encouraging and providing opportunities for residents to develop skills,
- Assisting residents to create new local resources,
- Supporting residents to organise events and activities,
- Signposting residents to relevant agencies and services,
