Community Development

Our Community Development Team work with local residents to bring them together, build relationships and skills, and take action on community issues.

What we do

Our Community Development Workers support local residents to come together, develop the skills knowledge and experience necessary to take collective action, and make positive change in response to issues identified by the community.

They are a great point of contact for anybody new to the area or wishing to get more involved in local community activities.

  • support the development of local decision-making forums
  • develop partnerships with statutory and voluntary organisations across the city, to better meet the needs of our community
  • support the management committees of local community centres
  • conduct consultations to ensure that any local initiatives are supported by the wider community and to ensure we are responsive to local need
  • encourage residents to develop a sense of ownership of their area
  • provide opportunities for residents to develop skills and confidence
  • work with residents to create local resources
  • work with residents and services to organise events and activities
  • signpost residents to relevant agencies and services

HK50+

The Hangleton and Knoll 50+ Steering Group is a resident led group of volunteers supported by The Hangleton and Knoll Project.

The group aims to enhance the health and wellbeing of residents aged 50 and older by addressing social isolation, fostering and promoting new interests, groups, and activities in the community, and empowering individuals to express their opinions and participate in local matters.

Multicultural groups

These groups promote the wellbeing of families especially those from black and minority ethnic backgrounds living in Hangleton and Knoll through arranging activities for those living locally, linking with local and city wide service providers and groups.
